"Margaret"

If you are reading this, you are probably part of this community. So, we want you to know that we are truly humbled by YOU! The way you take care of your neighbors like “Margaret”…not just through POM, but so many times, there are so many groups that, without even coordinating, come together to love and support each other. We often see grandparents who suddenly become guardians of several of their grandchildren. Life can be hard, and occasionally a parent needs to lean on their parents to get through.

But it can often become a strain on an elderly person’s budget to suddenly need back to school clothes, shoes, supplies, perhaps diapers, formula…not to mention feeding 3, 4 or even 5 hungry mouths! “Margaret” found herself in just this scenario. When she called POM’s Samaritan Services, it was immediately obvious that she was very capable and extremely organized. She had recently taken guardianship of FIVE of her grandchildren. She had multiple lists and had most everything figured out. She explained, “I have everything covered except I need clothing for the toddler.” Our case managers were astounded! This lovely lady’s household had just quintupled and all she needed was a few clothes for the youngest!? She told us, “I have great neighbors and my church has helped tremendously.”

We are continually humbled by the generosity on the Plateau! So many helping hands reaching out to Margaret and her grandchildren! We were able to find some clothes for her from our Thrift Store, More Pennies From Heaven (thanks to YOU, generous community members who have donated to the store!) and we gave her resources for help with back to school supplies. This community sure makes helping people a blessing! Thank you, all of you, who open your hearts for your neighbors.
