Dementia

Dementia: Much feared by anyone who has an elderly family member who maybe starting to forget things, or is becoming increasingly confused. “Martin” is a veteran who had been homeless for several years. As his mind began to slip into that much feared state of Dementia, the police became familiar with him and finally brought him to some family members in Buckley to see if they could help. Not knowing what to do but wanting to help him, they turned to POM. They had sought medical care for him and he was diagnosed with Dementia, but they were really not equipped to deal with the full-time care that would require. Our Samaritan Services case workers were able to help the family do some research and found a memory care home that had room for him. The family can breathe easily knowing he will be well cared for, and they are looking forward to visiting him when it opens back up. We never know what sort of help people will need when they call for help, but in Martin’s case, we learned a few new resources and were able to give a little bit of service back so someone who proudly served our country. Rest easy Martin…you will be in our prayers.
