The fight to survive continues. Who is still struggling and why?
While many have gone back to work and are beginning to dig themselves out of their rent and utility debt, others are not so lucky.
👉 In many jobs, overtime is part of a person’s regular income: machinists, longshore workers, union workers, police officers. They normally work extra to earn what they need to get by. But, many places of employment cannot offer that extra work right now. Therefore, while these folks are back to work, their income is much reduced.
👉 As much focus as we’ve seen on the craziness in hospitals, others in the medical field are suffering. Things like elective procedures have started to resume, but not in full force, which means those who were called back to work, may only be working a fraction of their normal hours, but, because they’re back to work, unemployment stops.
👉 Others are looking at longer term layoffs. Many school employees may not be recalled if school doesn’t resume in person. Event planners, caterers, entertainers, venue owners all face a ‘new normal’ where large gathers may not be possible for some time.
These are the puzzles our case workers help clients try and solve every day. We are grateful to a community that has not grown weary of supporting those who continue to need our help. Thank you! ❤️
