POM and COVID-19

First and foremost, a HUGE THANK-YOU to all of you! We have had an incredible response from you every time we presented a need during this weird and disorienting time. When we ran out of sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer (necessary to use between clients at our ‘drive-through’ food bank) we thought, “There is no way people have enough to share…it’s just impossible to find.” But boy were we wrong! You all delivered (literally) and within a day and a half we had what we needed to get us through the next couple weeks! When we had to shut down our thrift store, which provides about a third of the income we use to provide services, we put out a plea for special donations, and again, you delivered! We received almost as much as our predicted loss. And, you have been bringing donations of food, paper towels, paper bags, and much more. We can feel the love, even if we can’t give out our usual hugs!

We are exceedingly grateful and beyond humbled to be part of your community. Without words that can adequately express our gratitude, we’ll just shout it out …. THANK YOU!!!

Operations During The Covid-19 Quarantine

As we move forward during these unprecedented days, we want reassure those who need help, we remain open for services, albeit in a modified way.

Please help us spread this message: You are not alone; POM is here for you.

Food Bank – The food bank remains open during normal hours of Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon, serving all who are in need (no residency restrictions). Instead of our usual ‘grocery store style’ shopping experience, we have set up a ‘drive-through’ (or walk through) operation. Customers can drive or walk through the alley and we will hand them a pre-packed allotment of food. We are practicing the appropriate sanitization methods as recommended by the Health Department and the Food Bank Coalition. We do ask for patience as we have sent all of our volunteers home for their own safety and are operating with minimal staff.

Samaritan Services – Our financial assistance and case management also remains open with changes. All appointments will be conducted over the phone. We ask clients to call the office [360-825-8961 press #3] to schedule a time slot. Appointments are available Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Most appointments last about half an hour. If alternate times are needed, please ask for special scheduling when calling the office for an appointment.

More Pennies From Heaven Thrift Store – The thrift store will remain closed for both shopping and donations until further notice. We are hoping to open again June 1st at the latest. The thrift store normally provides about 1/3 of the annual income we use for serving our clients. Thank you, thank you to all who have given financial donations to help us recover that lost income. If we do remain closed until June 1st, the loss will be around $29,000. We are incredibly grateful to those who have helped make up some of that loss.

We continue to pray for our community…. for health, safety, comfort and peace. Together, we WILL get through this!
