I Don't Want Welfare!

"I don't want welfare." That's what we often hear from our senior clients. They've worked hard all their lives. They've lived with the philosophy that if it breaks you fix it! If you can't pay cash, you can't afford it! But, as age sets in, sometimes things become more difficult. That proud, independent spirit is still there, but some of the ability has slipped. Things like utility bills become confusing. Take "Joyce" for instance...she had somehow signed up for the "Budget Plan" at Puget Sound Energy. She thought that meant she was saving money, but what it really means is that the power company divides your last year's usage by 12 and you are able to pay that amount every month. This helps with budgeting since usage is usually higher in the winter and those bills can get pretty big. However, if you use MORE than you used the year before, you will owe the difference at the end. In Joyce's case it was $600!! Due all at once! POM strives to help those who are struggling with things like power bills to understand. To patiently explain and help find solutions. We are all getting older (there's no getting around it! 😉) and we'll likely all experience moments like Joyce's at some point. Hopefully, we'll have someplace like POM to help us along the way. .
